RULES AND REGULATIONS
The competition will take place February 16, 2025 at Eagle School in fitchburg, WI.
Eligibility | Piano, string, woodwind, brass and percussion students in grades 9-12 on the audition date and living in the State of Wisconsin are eligible to perform. Winners and runners up from previous years (excluding highly commended awards) are not eligible to compete. The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra reserves the right to determine eligibility.
Performance Information | The applicant must perform a movement of a concerto (unless otherwise specified) from the suggested list by memory, not to exceed 10 minutes. The winner and runner-up must also be available for selected rehearsals prior to the performances. The WCO reserves the right to shorten the movement to accommodate program length.
Applicants must provide their own accompanist. If you are unable to find an accompanist, please call the WCO and we will provide you with a list of available pianists.
Competition Details | Applications are limited to the first 35 entries. Additional applications may be accepted upon the discretion of WCO staff. Substitutions of the required repertoire must be approved by the Music Director. Please email Sam Pavel at [email protected] with any requested repertoire changes.
All entries must be submitted by January 19, 2025. Each applicant will receive a confirmation email with notification of their audition time.
The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra reserves the right to not name a winner of the competition in the event that judges determine there are no suitable or qualified applicants. Judges will be assigned by the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra staff and will include an artistic representative of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. The decision of the judges will be final.
Awards and Performances
Winner | The winner of this competition will appear as a soloist at one of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra's 2025 Concerts on the Square® performances, and will receive the David Lewis Crosby Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Concerts on the Square are six weekly outdoor performances held on the steps of Wisconsin's State Capitol. Annual attendance for these concerts is estimated at over 120,000 people.
Runner-Up | The runner-up will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,000.
Highly Commended | A number of "highly commended" awards may be given at the discretion of the judging panel.
