Pianist Jessica Chow Shinn is a native of Madison and is the co-founder and co-artistic director of the pianoSonoma Music Festival (pianosonoma.org). Started in 2011, this unique festival brings together Artists in Residence, dynamic and innovative professional performers, with adult musicians of all backgrounds to collaborate and perform in private and public concerts at the Green Music Center in Sonoma County, CA. She is also currently associate professor of collaborative piano at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she recently gave a song recital with mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke as part of the Opera Innovators series. Michael Shinn, DMA, was appointed executive director of Boston Conservatory at Berklee in October 2024. Prior to his appointment as executive director, he served as both Boston Conservatory’s interim executive director (2023–2024) and as dean of music (2017–2023). In these roles, Shinn led Boston Conservatory to several significant achievements. Prior to Boston Conservatory, Shinn was Chair of Keyboard Studies at The Juilliard School and Senior Advisor for Artistic and Educational Programs at Juilliard Global Ventures, where he designed and taught Juilliard’s first online course, Juilliard Piano Class: Sharpen Your Artistry. Together with his wife, Jessica (also a pianist and faculty member at the Conservatory), Shinn co-founded and directs the pianoSonoma Music Festival, which has been a major vehicle for supporting the development of the finest young musicians. Shinn and his wife are both Yamaha Artists and duo pianists who passionately advocate for new music, having given world premieres by composers such as Adam Schoenberg and Thomas Cabaniss. A modern player with a “signature sound” and distinctive style of playing, cellist Mark Kosower embodies the concept of the complete musician performing as concerto soloist with symphony orchestras, in solo recitals, and as a much admired and sought-after chamber musician. He is Principal Cello of The Cleveland Orchestra and a scholar and teacher of cello. Mark’s performance repertoire and discography are testaments to a deep devotion, not only to frequently heard repertoire such as Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and concertos of Haydn, Walton, Elgar and Dvořák but, significantly, to less well-known concertos of Alberto Ginastera, Miklos Rozsa, Frederich Gulda and Victor Herbert.
