BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Udry, 18, has played cello for 8 years, and currently studies with Mr. Scott Cook at the Cello Institute of Milwaukee. At the Cello Institute, Matthew performs with the 12-cello ensemble I Cellisti.

Matthew is also a member of the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory in Highland Park, IL, where he performs in their orchestra and chamber ensembles. Through MYAC, Matthew performed with Piano Trio Fiammata, who were semifinalists at the 2017 Fischoff National Chamber Music competition and were awarded Honorable Mention at the 2017 Rembrandt Chamber Music Competition and the 2016 Discover National Chamber Music Competition.

Among other accolades, Matthew was the winner of the 2017 Racine Symphony Young Artist Competition and the 2015 Kenosha Symphony Young Artist Competition. In addition, he has been a member of the Wisconsin School Music Association’s State Honors Project for 5 years, serving as principal cellist in the 2016 State Honors Orchestra.

A senior at Tremper High School, Matthew serves as President of Tremper’s Student Government and is also involved in Tremper’s Math Team, National Honors Society, Tremper Astronomical Society, and Model United Nations. Recently, he has taken up the tuba in his school concert band and pep band. In his spare time, he enjoys learning about programming and electronics, playing the mandolin, and taking naps.
