Angelina Chang is a 12th grader at Madison West High School. She started playing the piano at the age of four and currently studies with Dr. Lina (YooMin) Lee, whose mentorship was instrumental in her award-winning performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. She would also like to acknowledge her longtime piano teacher, Julie Chang. As the winner of the 2021 Fall Youth Concerto Competition, 2022 Wisconsin Youth Piano Concerto Competition, and 2023 MCO Young Artist Competition, she has performed with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Middleton Community Orchestra, respectively. In the 2025-2026 season, Angelina received 2nd Place at the Chippewa Valley Symphony Young Artist Competition and the John Bolstad Award at the Richard Record Rising Stars Concerto Competition.
Angelina was a Sonatina Festival winner in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023. She performed at the Madison Area Music Educators (MAME) Honors Recital in 2019-2022 and 2024, and was subsequently invited to perform at masterclasses with Diana Shapiro, Kaju Lee, and Ilya Yakushev. Angelina attended the International Summer Academy of the Mozart University, Salzburg, Austria, in 2022 and the Jacobs School of Music Summer Piano Academy in 2023.
Outside of piano, Angelina is a four-time recipient of the Maryam Mirzakhani AMC 10A and Jane Street 12A Certificate of Excellence (top 5 girls in Wisconsin) and a three-time qualifier for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. She researches microplastic pollution in Dr. Mohan Qin’s lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and plans to pursue Environmental Engineering after high school. In her free time, she enjoys dancing at Barrio Dance, baking, and spending time with her friends and family.
