Nancy Mackenzie celebrates her 40th year as the principal clarinet of the WCO

Nancy Mayland Mackenzie is a native of Madison, Wisconsin. She did her advanced degree work in clarinet performance at the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. Her principal teachers were Glenn Bowen, David Shifrin, and Stanley Hasty. Ms. Mackenzie began her professional career in 1975 as a member of the Madison Summer Symphony, WCO's predecessor, and in 1980 she assumed the position of principal clarinet in the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.

In addition to performing with the WCO, she regularly performs with the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Oakwood Chamber Players. As a founding member of the Oakwood Chamber Players over 30 years ago, Ms. Mackenzie has been involved in numerous commissions of chamber music for mixed ensemble and several CD recordings.
