Yu-Fang Chen, trained as a violinist, has appeared in Taiwan as an active recitalist and orchestral player. Yu-Fang Chen began studying violin at age 6, and has been selected as the representative of cultural exchange and performed in Australia at age 12. In 2001, Yu-Fang Chen won the first prize of the Commemorative Violin Competition of Professor Cuei-lun Dai, and the second prize of Future Musician Violin Competition. In 2002, Yu-Fang Chen won the second prize of Academy of Taiwan Strings: The Third Annual Competition – Adult Category. In 2005, Yu-Fang Chen was invited by Academy of Taiwan Strings, and played Antonio Vivaldi Concerto for four violins & cello in b-minor, op.3, no.10. On September, Yu-Fang played F. Mendelssohn e-minor violin concert Op.64 with UMKC Conservatory of Music orchestra. In 2007, Chen won the first prize of Naftzger Competition (Instrumental division), and received the scholarship from Kansas City Musical club and Mu Phi Epsilon in 2008.
As an enthusiastic performer of orchestral music, Yu-Fang Chen has been invited by National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Festival Symphony Orchestra, Taiwan Youth Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra, and performed in Southeast Asia, America, Russia, South Africa, Estonia, German, Finland, France, etc. From1998 to 2005, Yu-Fang Chen was the concertmaster of Youth Orchestra of National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra and Purely Professional Orchestra. Besides, Yu-Fang Chen was the professional violin player of Academy of Taiwan Strings and Taipei Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestra.
Yu-Fang Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan and earned the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Music degree from Taipei National University of The Arts as a pupil of Professor Shien-Ta, Su, with additional coaching from Li-Na, Yu, Joseph Silveisten, Lukas David, Tanya Grindaenko, Lian Chang, etc. From 2008 fall, Yu-Fang is the core musician of Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Currently, Yu-Fang is a Doctor of Music Arts student, studying with Professor Benny Kim, and pursuing Artist Certificate on viola performance with Professor Scott Lee at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
