Eugenia Wie

Eugenia WieEugenia Wie, a native of Chicago, began her violin lessons with Betty Haag-Kuhnke at the age of five.  She made radio debut at the age of nine on Chicago Public Radio and has continued on to give solo violin performances throughout North America, Europe and Asia.  She has appeared at numerous music festivals including the Val-de-Charante Music Festival, Masterclass Sessions at Prussia Cove, Banff Centre for the Arts Summer Program, the Duo Program in Lausanne with Pierre Amoyal and Pavel Gillilov, and the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber Music and Masterclass Sessions.  She completed her BMUS degree at Rice University where she studied with Sergiu Luca and her MMUS at the Mannes College of Music with Daniel Phillips.  After, she received the Frank Huntington Beebe award which took her post-college music studies abroad to Cologne, Germany.  Other teachers include Josef Gingold, Geoffrey Wharton and Ariadne Daskalakis.  She had also been a recipient of a Nicolas Amati Violin from the Stradivarious Society. 

Since her return to Chicago she enjoys a career in chamber music, orchestra, and teaching. She currently chairs the Sejong Society Music Competition and is also on violin and chamber music faculty at the Music Institute of Chicago.  This 2008-09 season she can also be heard performing with the Fifth House Ensemble at the Cultural Center of Chicago, Gottlieb Concert Hall, and the Mostly Music Concert Series.
